Why San Antonio Homeowners Choose Carrier HVAC

We provide independent Carrier in San Antonio HVAC service, and we’ve torn down hundreds of Carrier units across this city, from 20-year-old Infinity furnaces to new ductless Performance systems. We know exactly which compressors, boards, and coils fail first in this heat and humidity. That depth means faster diagnoses, honest repair-vs-replace calls, and a written price before anyone touches your unit. Call (903) 623-6784 for Carrier service that respects your time and your budget.

Carrier builds solid equipment. AC Repair in San Antonio tests it harder than most places on earth. When your AC runs 3,000+ hours a year through 100°F afternoons and soupy Gulf humidity, every component works at the edge of its design envelope. That’s where brand-specific experience stops being a nice-to-have and becomes the difference between a $250 capacitor swap and a $2,800 misdiagnosis. Andre Fuller, our owner, grew up turning wrenches in Los Angeles and got his start at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College. He’s been diagnosing the tricky ones for 25 years, the intermittent no-cool that three other techs missed. He built Halden Heating and Air on one rule he’s never bent: tell the customer the price before anyone opens a toolbox.

We are an independent Carrier service provider, not a factory-authorized dealer. That’s not a limitation. It means we’re free to tell you the truth about which Carrier parts are worth OEM money and which aftermarket equivalents actually outlast them in South Texas conditions. No allegiance to a manufacturer’s margins. Just straight answer, written price, no runaround.

Why Trust Halden Heating and Air San Antonio for Your Carrier HVAC?

Carrier doesn’t make one generic air conditioner. They make dozens of model families, each with its own quirks, known weak points, and parts specs. Our techs can identify a 24ANB1 from a 24ABC6 within seconds of opening the panel, and more importantly, they know what fails on each. When a San Antonio homeowner calls with “the unit outside hums but the fan won’t spin,” we already have a shortlist of three probable causes specific to that compressor family before the truck leaves our shop.

We default to genuine Carrier OEM parts for critical components: compressors, control boards, ECM motors. These are the parts where a cheap knockoff costs you more in the long run, especially under San Antonio’s heat load. For consumables like capacitors, contactors, and pressure switches, we often use high-quality aftermarket equivalents that match or exceed Carrier specs. That’s not corner-cutting. It’s knowing where the value lives. Andre’s 25 years in the trade taught him that a $19 aftermarket capacitor with a higher microfarad tolerance can outlast a Carrier-stamped one that’s been sitting on a warehouse shelf for three years. We pass that knowledge on to you in a written estimate before any work starts.

Our warranty-safe approach matters too. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act protects your right to independent service without voiding your manufacturer warranty. We document everything, use spec-matched parts, and we’ve never had a Carrier warranty claim denied because of our work. Every repair also comes with our own written guarantee, plus a free second visit if the repair fails within the coverage window. That’s the 365-Day Done Right Promise, and it’s not an add-on. It’s automatic.

Common Carrier HVAC Problems We Fix in San Antonio

  • Welded contactors on Infinity 24ANB1 units. The contactor is the electrical switch that lets power flow to the compressor and fan. On Carrier Infinity 24ANB1 condensers, dust from cedar fever season mixes with San Antonio humidity and coats the contactor points. Add the constant on-off cycling of a Texas summer, and the points arc, overheat, and eventually weld shut. That’s why your outdoor unit won’t shut off, or won’t start at all. We see it weekly. The fix is a new contactor, sometimes a hard-start kit to reduce future inrush current, and a quick cleaning of the control compartment.
  • Ovalized crankcase bores on Performance 24ACC6 compressors. The 24ACC6 is Carrier’s mid-tier Performance line, a solid single-stage unit. But after years of hard starts in Texas heat, the compressor’s crankcase bore can ovalize, which means the piston doesn’t seal tight against the cylinder wall. Compression drops. Cooling suffers. You’ll notice the AC runs all day and the house never gets below 78°F. If we catch it early, a hard-start kit can buy you a couple more seasons. If it’s advanced, replacement is the honest call, and we’ll show you the numbers side by side.
  • Rust-through on Comfort 24ABC6 evaporator coil support pans. The evaporator coil sits inside your air handler or furnace. Underneath it is a drain pan that catches condensate. On Carrier Comfort 24ABC6 units, that pan is pressed steel. Ten years of acidic condensate and high humidity doesn’t just rust it, it eats holes through it. Water drips onto ceilings, into furnace cabinets, onto hardwood floors. We see it most in older Alamo Heights and Olmos Park homes where tight mechanical closets trap moisture. The fix is a pan replacement or a full coil swap depending on damage.
  • Swollen dual capacitors on Infinity 98 gas furnaces. Your Infinity 98 furnace has a dual capacitor that helps both the blower motor and the inducer fan start. San Antonio’s heat soaks through the cabinet and cooks that capacitor. After two or three summers, the dielectric fluid inside breaks down, the case bulges, and it loses microfarads. The furnace blower starts slow, runs rough, or trips the limit switch. It’s a $150 to $350 fix with a high-quality aftermarket capacitor, and we keep them on the truck because we replace so many.
  • Frozen evaporator coils on undersized returns. In Alamo Heights and Olmos Park, many 1920s-1950s homes have radiant barrier issues and undersized return ducts. Your Carrier system can’t pull enough air across the coil. The coil temperature drops below freezing, condensation turns to ice, and suddenly you have no cooling and a block of ice inside your air handler. We don’t just thaw it and leave. We measure static pressure, check return sizing, and show you exactly why it froze. Sometimes it’s a dirty filter. Sometimes it’s a duct problem that will freeze any brand of equipment.

Carrier Parts & Our Repair-vs-Replace Approach

When a Carrier compressor fails, you have a decision: replace the compressor or replace the entire outdoor unit. We give you both numbers in writing. A compressor repair on a Carrier Performance 24ACC6 typically runs $400 to $650 in parts and labor, assuming the rest of the unit is in good shape. If the unit is 12+ years old, has a history of hard starts, and used R-22 refrigerant that’s now being phased out, replacement is usually the smarter money. We’ll tell you that straight, even if it means we make less on the job. That’s the rule Andre set on day one.

We stock the parts that fail most frequently in this climate: dual capacitors, contactors, pressure switches, ignition components, and thermostats. That means most Carrier repairs are completed same-day without waiting on a supply house delivery. For less common parts, we use local Carrier distributors and typically have them in hand within 24 hours. When we replace a critical component, you’ll see the part box, you’ll know if it’s OEM or aftermarket, and the price was already on your written estimate before we started. Call (903) 623-6784 to talk through your specific repair.

Our Carrier Service Process – Step by Step

  1. 1
Diagnosis. You book online or call us. You get a live arrival time, not a four-hour window. Our tech arrives in a marked truck, background-checked and uniformed. We run a full diagnostic on your Carrier system: refrigerant pressures, electrical draw, capacitor microfarads, temperature splits, and static pressure where relevant. You get a written diagnosis in plain English.
  2. 2
Written price. Before anyone picks up a tool, you get a written price for the recommended repair. No “we’ll see what it costs when we’re done.” Not here. The price on that paper is the price you pay.
  3. 3
Repair or install. We use the parts we discussed, OEM where it matters, aftermarket where it’s smarter. Compressor work, heat pump repair, refrigerant recharge, evaporator coil replacement, full system installs. We do it all, and we do it to manufacturer spec.
  4. 4
Testing. After the repair, we run the system through a complete cycle. Starting amps, running amps, subcooling or superheat depending on your metering device, temperature split across the coil. We don’t call it done until the numbers are right.
  5. 5
Written guarantee. Every repair gets a written guarantee. If it fails within the coverage window, we come back at no charge. Automatically. No arguing. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers a full year of accountability on every completed job.
