Lackland AFB is not a typical San Antonio neighborhood. It is a working military installation wrapped in westside residential streets where the housing stock runs from 1970s brick ranches to early-2000s track homes, many still breathing through original sheet metal ductwork and undersized returns. Add San Antonio’s brutal summer heat, and you get a place where HVAC problems are not an inconvenience. They are a readiness issue. Halden Heating & Air handles AC repair, AC installation, and furnace repair for military families and off-base homeowners across Lackland AFB and the surrounding neighborhoods. Call (903) 623-6784 any time, day or night, and you will reach a live person.
Why Lackland AFB Homes Are Different
Working HVAC here means working around the base’s operational tempo. Thousands of airmen and their families live in on-base housing maintained by the military, but just outside the gate, Lackland Terrace and Valley Hi are full of off-base rentals and older single-family homes where systems are often 10 to 15 years old and have been pushed hard. The turnover is constant. A new occupant arrives, the AC has been limping along for months, and the first 100-degree week reveals a dead capacitor or a clogged condenser coil.
The climate is the other half of the story. From June through September, Lackland AFB sees triple-digit temperatures and dew points in the 70s. That kind of heat and humidity is hard on equipment. Capacitors and contactors fail more often. Evaporator coils sweat, and drain lines clog with the kind of biological growth that thrives in San Antonio summers. A technician who knows this specific housing stock and this specific weather pattern can diagnose a no-cool call fast, instead of guessing.
There is also the access factor. Service on or near the installation often means coordinating with base security protocols, gate access, and military schedules. Our crews are background-checked and show up with a live arrival time you can track to your door, which matters when a spouse is solo parenting during a training cycle and needs to know exactly when help is coming.

Our Main Lackland AFB Services
These are the two jobs Lackland AFB homeowners call us about most, plus the heating work that keeps the colder weeks comfortable. Each service has its own dedicated page with local detail, pricing, and what to expect.
AC Repair in Lackland AFB
Most AC repair calls in Lackland AFB come down to the same handful of problems: a blown capacitor, a contactor that stopped making contact, a refrigerant leak, or a condensate drain line backed up with slime. In Valley Hi especially, we see original 1980s Amana and Carrier units with condenser coils packed with cottonwood fuzz from late spring. If that fuzz is not cleaned off before the first heat wave, the system runs hot and trips. Our techs diagnose the problem, hand you a written price before any work starts, and often have the repair done the same day. Read the full breakdown on our AC Repair in Lackland AFB page.
AC Installation in Lackland AFB
When a system in Lackland AFB is beyond repair, replacement is a bigger decision than just picking a brand. Many homes here still have the original ductwork, and an undersized return is the quiet reason a new unit underperforms. We walk homeowners through equipment sizing, efficiency ratings, and what it actually costs before anything is ordered. No surprise upcharges on install day. The full scope of what a new system involves for a Lackland AFB home is covered on our AC Installation in Lackland AFB page.
Furnace Repair in Lackland AFB
Furnaces here do not run as often as they do up north, but when a cold snap hits in January, a furnace that has sat unused since March will often fail on its first hard run. We see cracked igniters, dirty flame sensors, and blower motors that have seized from disuse. It is a different repair pattern than you would find in colder climates, and fixing it fast matters when the house gets cold enough to need heat. Our Furnace Repair in Lackland AFB page covers the common failures and repair ranges.

AfterPricing for HVAC Company in Lackland AFB, TX
Every job gets a written price before any work starts. The ranges below reflect what we typically see across Lackland AFB and the surrounding westside neighborhoods.
| Service | Typical range in Lackland AFB |
|---|---|
| AC repair | $150 – $650 |
| Furnace repair | $150 – $700 |
| Full AC installation | $3,500 – $7,500 |
| Seasonal tune-up | $80 – $200 |
In Lackland AFB, the biggest price drivers are system age, refrigerant type, and access. An older unit running R-22 costs more to recharge, and a system squeezed into a tight attic or closet takes more labor to service. Regardless of the job, you will see the full written price before we pick up a single tool, and every repair includes a written guarantee with a free second visit if the fix fails.
