Trane Mini-Split Installation: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide

Installing a Trane mini-split in San Antonio typically runs $3,800 to $7,200 depending on system size, line-set distance, and whether we’re working with existing wall penetrations. We stock Trane-compatible installation kits and mounting hardware on the truck, so most single-zone installs are done in a day. Most San Antonio owners reach this page because their aging mini-split lost cooling capacity, started dripping condensate down the wall, or the compressor gave out after one too many 105-degree summers.

We’re an independent service provider, not a Trane dealer or factory affiliate. That matters because we make honest part recommendations for your Trane system without any manufacturer sales targets. Andre Fuller put it plainly more than once: match the part to the unit, not to the commission. Straight answer, written price, no runaround.

Which Trane Models This Applies To

This guide covers Trane’s ductless lineups most common in San Antonio homes: the M-Series (Mitsubishi-built, including the popular M4THS and M4THW heat pump and cooling-only models), the ComfortLink Series (newer multi-zone capable units), and the older G Series still running in plenty of Pearl District condos built in the 2010s. Your exact model number is on the right side of the air handler behind the front cover, or on the outdoor unit’s data plate. It’ll read something like 4MXW18 or 4MXD18. We need that full string to match a line set, mounting bracket, or drain kit correctly.

Here’s a Trane-specific gotcha most San Antonio owners don’t know: Trane M-Series and ComfortLink units use different flare fitting sizes and line-set prep procedures. A 1/4-inch flare on an M-Series indoor head is not interchangeable with the 3/8-inch connection on select ComfortLink condensing units. Generic aftermarket brackets usually fit, but the condensate drain routing on Trane high-wall heads runs tighter to the wall than Carrier clones, which can cause pooling if you use a non-Trane drain elbow. For parts that touch refrigerant, we install Trane OEM or Trane-approved flare nuts every time. For brackets and line-set covers, quality aftermarket parts save you real money without touching performance. We stock both.

Signs Your Trane Mini-Split Installation Is Failing

Most of the failed installs we fix in San Antonio share the same few symptoms. If you recognize these, call before the next heat wave puts the unit under full load.

  • Warm air after a cold morning start – This usually points to a slow refrigerant leak at the flare connections, the most common failure point on any mini-split. A bad flare reads as normal for the first half hour, then loses bite as the system runs.
  • Water running down the interior wall – A sagging line set without proper pitch or a cracked OEM drain pan dumps condensate inside. Trane wall heads drain by gravity, so even a half-inch of sag creates a drip.
  • Outdoor unit vibrating loudly against the wall – Trane outdoor units transfer vibration through hard-mounted brackets. The factory anti-vibration pads compress after three to five San Antonio summers, especially in full afternoon sun on the south side.
  • Multiple short cycles or compressor lockout – This is often an undersized line set installed by a previous contractor. Trane specifies exact line lengths; a unit cycling on high-head pressure every 12 minutes is working against its own plumbing.
  • Ice on the indoor coil in June – A low charge caused by a flare leak, or a clogged filter on a high-wall head that hasn’t been cleaned since the last freeze. Texas cottonwood season is brutal on these coils.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what we see across San Antonio. Most mini-split installation work lands in these ranges, and every price is written before we pick up a tool.

  • Single-zone 9k – 12k BTU installation: $3,800 – $4,800
  • Dual-zone 18k – 24k BTU installation: $5,200 – $6,500
  • Multi-zone 30k – 36k BTU installation: $6,500 – $7,800
  • Line-set flush and flare repair only: $350 – $700 (not a full install, but a common first step)

Every quote includes the line set, flare fittings, mounting hardware, drain line, electrical whip, and full-system startup with a written installation warranty. If a repair fails within the coverage window, we come back at no charge. That’s not a promo. It’s in writing on every job we do.

DIY or Call Us?

Homeowners can safely clean a Trane high-wall filter, check that the outdoor unit isn’t blocked by leaves, and confirm the breaker hasn’t tripped. Past that, this work involves refrigerant under pressure and 240-volt electrical connections, both of which can cause serious injury if handled wrong. A bad flare on a line set leaking R-410A in a closed room is a genuine health risk, not a YouTube fix.

If the indoor head is loose, the line set is kinked, or the system needs a new flare and vacuum pump-down, call (903) 623-6784. We’ll give you an honest diagnosis and a written price before any work starts. No pressure. No surprise upcharge at the door.
